The International Football Federation has worked to temporarily cancel the membership of the SL Football Federation. The ban is effective from January 21 until further notice. The International Football Federation has informed this ban in a letter to the former General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Football Federation Mr Upali Hewage.
A new board of officials was appointed to the Sri Lanka Football Federation in an official election held on January 14, but the International Football Federation had not accepted the new board of officials.
It is reported that this ban has been imposed on the grounds of the intervention of the Minister of Sports as a third party in the recently held office election, the non-amendment of the SL Football Federation constitution as promised by the Sports Ministry and not acting according to the road map previously agreed with the International Football Federation.
According to the ban, no player, coach or official representing Sri Lanka as well as the Sri Lankan national team will be able to participate in international matches or any other tournament. (Divaina)
