The Ministry of Finance states that the excise revenue decreased by 40% in March, but no decision has been taken to reduce the price of alcohol. A senior official of the Ministry of Finance told a major newspaper in the country that there is no truth in the rumours circulating on social media that the price of alcohol will decrease from next June.
He said that due to the increase in excise duty in January this year, the target excise revenue will decrease by 30%. The senior spokesman of the Ministry of Finance said that with the collapse of the sale of regular alcohol, consumers are resorting to illegal intoxicants and as a result, the government’s income is decreasing and the health of the people is deteriorating.
