Higurakgoda Magistrate Mrs Udumbara Dasanayake yesterday (17) ordered that the Deep Jungle Music and Cultural Festival music concert should be conducted only in accordance with the Inspector General of Police Circular 2031/2007 and to deploy a 20-member police team and a 10-member wildlife officer team to monitor whether it is conducted in accordance with the said circular.
The Higurakgoda Magistrate’s Court made the following order in the case filed yesterday (17) by several environmentalists against the Deep Jungle Music and Cultural Festival, which will be held next to the Habarana Elephant Corridor from February 17 to 20. According to the police circular, Section 80 of the Police Ordinance Act 1) The order also states that loudspeakers or other such devices shall not be used during the period from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am of the following day.
At the same time, a conditional order was issued for the aforementioned Deep Jungle Music and Cultural Festival music concert to be held outside the boundaries of the existing premises and without the use of loudspeakers and sound amplifiers.
