China’s former prime minister Li Keqiang has passed away due to a heart attack, according to the country’s media. He was 68 years old when he passed away. Li Keqiang stepped down as Prime Minister last March. In the Chinese Communist Party government, the Premier is the second most powerful person after the President.
Li Keqiang served two terms as prime minister and worked very closely with President Xi Jinping. However, recently it was reported that there were conflicts of opinion between Xi Jinping and Keqiang. Because of the conflict of opinion, President Xi Jinping also claimed that former prime minister Keqiang was politically silenced. It was Li Keqiang who tried to introduce market-oriented policies to China.
