The Central Bank of India has approved the opening of “Vostro” accounts in Sri Lanka, giving Sri Lanka the opportunity to transact using “Indian rupees”.
It is stated that this facility will enable Sri Lanka to transact using Indian Rupees instead of US Dollars.
The Reserve Bank of India introduced this method last July and in addition to Sri Lanka, Russia and Mauritius have also received the same approval.
