State Minister of Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya says that the annual tax for casinos has been raised from 200 million rupees to 500 million rupees since August 1.
Accordingly, it is stated that the Betting and Gambling Act has also been amended with the aim of increasing taxes for betting and gambling.
Below is how the tax was increased.
- Increasing the annual tax for live betting centres from Rs 6 lakh to at least Rs 10 lakh.
- Increasing the 10% turnover tax for live betting centres to at least 15%.
- Increasing the annual tax for betting sub-agents from 4 million rupees to at least 5 million rupees.
- Increase in annual tax for non-live betting markets from Rs.50,000 to Rs.75,000.
