The cabinet has given approval to take the necessary steps to provide facilities for paid wards in government hospitals. It is stated in the related cabinet resolution that many citizens of Sri Lanka have been covered by various health insurance schemes, and some citizens are willing to pay for these facilities privately.
As the Minister of Finance, the President presented a proposal to establish a paid ward system in public hospitals as a 2023 budget proposal, which was also passed by the Parliament.
