The Electrical Engineering Society says that if the coal orders are not received as scheduled, there will be a long power cut by March next year.
Accordingly, 38 coal ships should arrive at the Lakvijaya power plant and so far only 5 ships have arrived, according to Nihal Weeraratne, President of the Electrical Engineering Association.
He mentioned that there are only 4 months left and only 24 ships can be landed during that time and all 29 ships can be landed.
He further mentioned that the Norochcholai power plant provides 45% of the daily electricity requirement and if the required coal is not available, the electricity cut that would have happened in July may extend to March and April.
