Parliament approved the new bill submitted by the government led by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to curtail the powers of the Supreme Court and introduce new judicial reforms so that it cannot influence the decisions of the government.
When the new reform bill was presented to the Israeli parliament or ‘Knesset‘, 64 people voted in favour of the bill. The Israeli parliament has 120 members.
After the bill’s passage, the far-right government led by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could be challenged in a parliamentary referendum if the Supreme Court intervenes. (Reuters)
