In a significant crackdown on military desertion, Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Defence announced the arrest of 875 individuals who had unlawfully left the armed forces.According to the Ministry of Defence, the arrests include 704 soldiers and two officers from the Army, 73 personnel from the Navy, and 100 individuals from the Air Force. The operation has been a collaborative effort between the Military Police and the regular police forces, ensuring that those who abandoned their posts are brought to justice.
The Ministry of Education has issued an announcement regarding the end of term school holidays of all government and government-approved private schools in the year 2025.Accordingly, the education ministry stated that the first phase of the first school term of the academic year 2025 will end on Friday (March 14).Meanwhile, the second phase of the first school term of the academic year 2025 is scheduled to commence on April 01 (Tuesday), the statement noted.The 2024 (2025) G.C.E. A Customs officer and two accomplices were arrested by the Police Narcotics Bureau on November 3 for illegally importing a consignment of foreign-made cigarettes worth Rs. 900,000 through Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA).The trio, all residents of Gampola, were apprehended while attempting to smuggle 300 cartons hidden in five suitcases.
