The Special Boat Squadron (SBS) of the Sri Lanka Navy conducted a Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS) demonstration on 05 Mar 25, at Dikkowita fisheries harbour. The event was aimed at showcasing VBSS capabilities to delegates from the Indian Ocean Rim Academic Group (IORAG) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).The Defence Adviser to the Australian High Commission in Colombo, Colonel Amanda Johnston, officials from IORAG and UNODC as well as a group of officers from the Sri Lanka Navy were present on this occasion.
Three police officers attached to the Kollupitiya Police Station have been arrested for allegedly soliciting a bribe from an Austrian female tourist on the pretext of not taking legal action against foreign cigarettes in her possession.Police said that accordingly, a Sergeant and two Constables have been apprehended for allegedly demanding Rs. 50,000 from the female tourist.
