Under the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ programme, over 12,500 troops extended their assistance to support the nationwide initiative to renovate 1,000 selected schools. As a result of their efforts, the renovation of 380 schools were successfully completed from 20 February 2025 to 07 March 2025.The troops undertook the renovation of nearly 140 school buildings that had deteriorated over time, carrying out roof repairs, painting, and general refurbishment. Additionally, they restored damaged boundary fences within school premises. Sri Lanka’s official reserve assets rose marginally to USD 6,095 million by the end of February 2025, marking a 0.5% increase from USD 6,065 million in January, according to the latest data from the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.The uptick was driven primarily by foreign currency reserves, the largest component of the reserves, which increased by 0.7% to $6,031 million from $5,986 million in the previous month.
Plantation and Community Infrastructure Minister Samantha Vidyarathna has announced that a fertilizer subsidy will be provided to owners of coconut plantations less than five acres.Speaking at the Consultative Committee meeting of the Plantation and Community Infrastructure Ministry in Parliament, the Minister explained that of the 55,000 metric tons of MOP fertilizer received from Russia, 27,500 metric tons were used to create 56,000 metric tons of mixed fertilizer.The Minister further said that a 50-kilogram package of mixed fertilizer, valued at Rs. 9,500, will be distributed to coconut growers nationwide at a subsidized price of Rs.4,000 by the end of this month.
