The Sri Lanka Navy assumed the customary responsibilities of hoisting the National Flag at Galle Face and performing the Ceremonial Guard at the President’s House, taking over from the Sri Lanka Army. The duties were officially handed over at Galle Face and Navy Headquarters on 31st December 2024 and 01st January 2025.Accordingly, Sri Lanka Navy will be performing the duties of the hoisting of the National Flag at the Galle Face and the Ceremonial Guard at the President’s House for the next 03 month. The officers of the Galle Unit of the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) have arrested a foreign national while in the possession of a stock of narcotics intended for trafficking.The arrest has been made during a raid carried out by the police officers acting on a tip-off received.Accordingly, the PNB officials have seized 4 grams of cocaine and 12 ecstasy pills weighing 6 grams from the suspect’s possession.Preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspect has been trafficking these narcotics which were imported into the country through mail.Police said that the 38-year-old suspect is a Spaniard.

In a 24-hour operation that concluded at 6.00 a.m. today (01), Sri Lanka Police have enforced the law against 529 drunk drivers as part of a nationwide effort to minimize traffic accidents during the festive season. According to the Police Media Division, a total of 7,264 drivers were penalized for various traffic violations during this period. Among these, 1,057 drivers were charged for breaching traffic rules, 614 for license-related offenses, 54 for speeding, 57 for reckless driving and 4,953 over other traffic-related offenses.
