The Ministry of Environment has announced the commencement of an investigation into the clearing of lands belonging to the Department of Wildlife and Forest Conservation.Minister Dhammika Patabendige stated that these lands have been cleared under the guise of development, construction, and agricultural projects.The Minister highlighted that even environmentally sensitive areas are included in the cleared lands.He emphasized that strict action will be taken against the illegal clearing of these lands, which violates legal procedures.

Sri Lanka Police have initiated a comprehensive investigation into the recent shooting incidents in Weliveriya and Akmeemana. In a significant crackdown on military desertion, Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Defence announced the arrest of 875 individuals who had unlawfully left the armed forces.According to the Ministry of Defence, the arrests include 704 soldiers and two officers from the Army, 73 personnel from the Navy, and 100 individuals from the Air Force.
