Around 50% of the information provided by the general public during the recent wildlife census was found to be accurate, according to Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Namal Karunaratne.The Deputy Minister presented this information today (26) while addressing Parliament.The wildlife census, conducted on March 15 across the island, was aimed to identify animals that harm food crops, study them properly, and take appropriate action.The census, which was conducted simultaneously across the country, focused on animals such as monkeys, toque macaques, peacocks and giant squirrels. A total of 1,006 individuals have been arrested on suspicion of being involved in criminal activities and also over illicit liquor and drug-related offenses during a special island-wide operation conducted yesterday (24).As part of the operation, 28,669 persons were subjected to inspection, the Police Media Division said.Police have identified 31 individuals directly linked to criminal activities while 601 suspects with outstanding warrants were arrested during the operation, police noted.According to the report, a total of 63 drunk drivers were apprehended while a further 20 reckless drivers and 4,364 persons who violated various other traffic offences were identified.According to police, island-wide…

Several Buddhist monks injured in the cable car accident at the Na Uyana Monastery (Nā Uyana Āranya Senāsanaya) at Pansiyagama in Melsiripura continue to receive treatment at the Kurunegala and Polgahawela hospitals.The accident reportedly occurred at around 9:00 p.m. yesterday (24), as the monks were returning to their meditation huts after completing a religious ceremony held at the offering ground (Pūjā Bhūmiya).At the time of the accident, 13 monks were inside the cable car.
