The police say that around 80 houses have been destroyed in a fire that broke out in a row of houses in the Totalanga – Kajimawatte area.The fire which broke out last night (27th) has been brought under control by the firefighting unit, the police and the army.The police said that no casualties or injuries were reported in the fire and 220 people from 80 families were displaced.

The Department of Meteorology says that today (28) there may be occasional rain in Sabaragamuwa province and Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts.The department states that several rainy seasons may occur in the Western and North-Western provinces and Galle and Matara districts.In Uva, North-Central and Eastern Provinces and Mullaitivu District, rain or thundershowers may occur at places in the evening or at night.The Department of Meteorology requests that people take necessary measures to minimize the dangers caused by temporary strong winds and lightning that may occur with thunderstorms.

Sri Lanka Export Development Board says that merchandise export earnings in August 2022 increased by 10.24% to US$ 1,213.7 million.Accordingly, they point out that this is mainly due to the increase in garment and textile export earnings.The estimated value of service exports for the period January-August 2022 was 1,310.05 million dollars, which has increased by 5.58% over the corresponding period of 2021.
