The Deputy High Commissioner while commenting here said:
“As India and Sri Lanka complete 75 years of diplomatic relations, it is very timely that we hold this workshop. It is hoped that this workshop will contribute more to deepening the bonds with the people. Every year, more than 2000 films are produced in India. The total number of cinema tickets sold in 2011 was 3.5 billion. The history of Indian cinema is more than 100 years old. The pioneer filmmaker was Dadasaheb Phalke, known as the father of Indian cinema. On 3 May 1913, Raja Harishchandra gave India its first full-length silent film. Through this long journey, Indian cinema has enriched Indian society”.
He said that films have tackled nationalism, women and child rights, caste, religion, class and similar issues. (Lankadeepa)
