The National Building Research Organization says that the air quality has decreased in many areas of the island due to the pollutants present in the winds blowing from outside. Accordingly, the organization points out that the amount of dust particles in the atmosphere in Badulla district is very high.
Badulla District Disaster Management Deputy Director E. L. M Udayakumara has said that there is a health hazard in this situation for small children, elderly people and people suffering from respiratory problems.
He further states that people with health problems should wear masks and avoid staying in the open environment.
