Representing the anti-Chinese, ruling Democratic Progressive Party, Lai Ching-te won the presidential election. Lai Ching won over 5 million votes, making him the first Taiwanese president to cross the 5 million mark.
He is known as a leader who prefers to have closer relations with America than China. China believes that Lai Ching is even more anti-Chinese than the current president of Taiwan, Tsai Ing-wen.
China still considers Taiwan a part of them. Taiwan is a small island close to China.
