Three members of the same family were killed and a child injured in a car accident in the Wellawaya Nugaaya area last night. It is said that the accident occurred when a three-wheeler travelling on Wellawaya Tanamalvila road collided with a cab coming from the opposite direction. Three people who were travelling in the three-wheeler died in the accident.
It is reported that a 44-year-old police sergeant who was the driver of the three-wheeler, his 42-year-old wife and his 70-year-old father are among the dead. An 11-year-old child who was travelling in the three-wheeler was injured and is being treated at Monaragala Hospital. The driver of the cab was arrested in connection with the accident.
