The police said that a mother and three sons were arrested as a suspect on the 24th who beat a father-in-law to death and injured his father-in-law’s head when they went to save a pawned mobile phone.
The police said that the concerned suspects were arrested after they surrendered to the Angulana Police Station through lawyer Mrs Anuradha Ranasinghe. The police said that the father-in-law of the deceased who was assaulted was referred for treatment at the Colombo South Teaching Hospital.
The police said that the dispute took place when the suspect was going to retrieve the pawned mobile phone from the suspected mother which had been pawned for four thousand rupees. The suspect mother involved in the murder told the deceased that she needed 8000 rupees to save the mobile phone which was mortgaged for four thousand rupees.
According to the police, the two suspects attacked the head of the two children severely with sticks as the argument escalated.
The victim died after being admitted to the Lunawa District Hospital. (Lankadeepa)
