Lionel Herath, President of the Tea Factory Owners’ Association, says that the price of tea has decreased unexpectedly. He said that the increase in the value of the rupee, the increase in the supply of tea and the increase in the prices of products have affected it.
He also said that although the average price of a kilo of tea is around 1,500 rupees, it has been reduced to around 1,000 rupees. It is said that it has become a serious problem to maintain the tea industry.
The price of a kilo of raw tea leaves, which used to be 250, 260, 270, etc., has been reduced to around 165 rupees. (Lankadeepa)
