A follow-up committee has been appointed by President Ranil Wickramasinghe to investigate the operation of the International Monetary Fund loan facility.
Presidential Chief of Staff Sagala Ratnayake, Treasury Secretary Mahinda Siriwardena, Central Bank Governor Nandalal Weerasinghe and other scholars are members of this committee.
The President has also forwarded a proposal to the Cabinet about how this committee will work and the Cabinet is going to get approval for this in the future.
The relevant committee should regularly follow up on the IMF process and should constantly look into tax policies, changes in tax percentages, increase direct taxes by reducing indirect taxes, etc. and make the necessary arrangements.
Apart from this, this committee should also look into the implementation of IMF conditions.
In the instructions given by President Ranil Wickramasinghe to the committee, it is stated that this committee should inform the Cabinet of Ministers once a month by looking into the ordinances such as the Anti-Corruption Act. (Lankadeepa)
