Ceylon Electricity Board has decided to charge a 2.5% social security contribution tax from electricity consumers from 1st October 2022.
According to the Social Security Tax Act, the Public Utilities Commission states that the electricity supply of the Sri Lanka Electricity Board is subject to the Social Security Contribution Tax.
The Public Utility Commission proposed to the Ministry of Finance to exempt the consumption of electricity from this tax due to the recent revision of electricity tariffs, however, the Ministry of Finance has informed that according to the relevant Act, the electricity supply of the Ceylon Electricity Board is subject to this tax.
