The Minister of Transport, Dr Bandula Gunawardena, has taken steps to suspend the services of four officials of the Railway Department in connection with the theft of iron worth several lakhs of rupees imported for the project of renovation of the railway line from Mahawa to Omanthe.
A high-ranking official of the Ministry of Transport said that the four relevant officials are high-ranking people in the project and an investigation has been carried out into the incident.
The official added that the value of the iron allegedly stolen by these people has not been assessed yet. (Lankadeepa)
