Lasith Croospulle, the opening batsman of the Sri Lanka ‘A’ team, managed to record his second century against the visiting England Lions team yesterday (07th). Croospulle scored that century on the first day of the second four-day cricket match which started yesterday at the Galle International Cricket Stadium against England Lions.
More than half of the number of overs scheduled for yesterday in the match was wasted due to rain and thus when the game was stopped yesterday, Sri Lanka ‘A’ team had accumulated 190 runs with the loss of 3 wickets. The century-winning opening batsman Lasith Croospulle had scored an unbeaten 122 at that time, while skipper Nipun Dhananjaya had scored 14 not out.
Lasith Croospulle’s century was recorded in 90 balls and included 13 fours and three sixes. Lasith scored a century by hitting a four off a ball from Joss Tongue and after that, he did not end his aggressive batting. After he managed to score the century he scored another 21 runs including three more fours in the 19 balls he faced.
Lasith Croospulle took Sri Lanka to victory by scoring a quick century in the fourth innings of the three-day practice match against England Lions. There, Sri Lanka needed 309 runs to win and because of Lasith’s century by scoring 116 runs in 84 balls, Sri Lanka won by losing 5 wickets in 50 overs and four balls.
Nishan Madushka, who opened the innings with Lasith in the previous match, was dismissed for 22 runs yesterday and Nuwanidu Fernando’s innings were also limited to 22 runs. Kamidu Mendis was out for 6 runs and thus Sri Lanka’s innings was 149 for 3 wickets.
But opening batsman Lasith Croospulle defended his end and continued to score without any concern for the Lions bowlers. The match was stopped due to rain when captain Nipun Dhananjaya faced 31 balls and scored 14 runs including three fours. Sam Cooke, Matthew Fisher and Josh Tongue took one wicket each for England Lions. (Divaina)
