14 Sri Lankan domestic workers who had gone to Oman for domestic work were deported from that country and sent to Katunayake Airport early yesterday (20th).
Among them, 06 domestic workers were subjected to various problems in the country and then kept in the ‘Suraksha’ detention centre affiliated with the Sri Lankan Embassy in Oman.
In addition to this, 08 other domestic workers were accused of minor offences in the houses where they worked and were found guilty by the labour court and deported.
A Sri Lankan domestic worker who was pregnant was also among the group of domestic workers who came.
This group of housekeepers left from Muscat, Oman at 04.50 am on 01/20, on Sri Lankan Airlines U. L. flight 206 – Arrived at Katunayake Airport.
Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau officials have taken steps to send these domestic workers to their homes after they arrived at the airport. (Divaina)
