The Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 cricket tournament started yesterday (10) in South Africa. Accordingly, the first match was held between Sri Lanka and South Africa.

Batting first, the Sri Lanka women’s team scored 129 runs by losing 04 wickets in the scheduled 20 overs. There, captain Chamari Athapattu scored 68 points and Vishmi Gunaratne scored 35 points. Shabnim Ismail, Marzan Kapp and Nadine De Clark took a wicket each for the African team in bowling.

The South African team, which played the reply innings, managed to collect only 126 runs with the loss of 09 wickets in the scheduled 20 overs. There, captain Sune Luce scored 28 points. In the bowling, Inoka Ranaweera took 03 wickets and Sugandhika Kumari and Oshadhi Ranasinghe took 02 wickets each.

As a result, the Sri Lankan team won by 03 points and Chamari Athapatthu became the hero of the match.
