Ramya Wanigasekera, a veteran radio announcer, character actor and voiceover artist in Sri Lanka has passed away. She was 73 when she died.

She entered the industry as a background singer in the stage play ‘Hevayo’ in 1974. In 1978, she succeeded in making a breakthrough in stage plays through the role of “Gunavathy” in the play ‘Mana Ranjana Wedha Warjana’ directed by Chula Kariyawasam.

She acted in the dramas Ahasin Wetena Minisun (1971), Idama (1975), Jailor Unnehe (1986), Duwili (1990) and Raja Kathawa (1991) and also contributed to many popular dramas including Kande Gedara, Sanda Kinduri, Moodu Puttu, Ma Hene Riri Yaka, Liathambara, Siri Sangabo and Hiru Loya Lova as well as many teledramas.

She also won the hearts of her fans with the radio play “Muvan Palassa”. It is also special that she continuously played the role of “Matilda” in Kelani Paalama for 41 years.
