The Turkish Parliament has decided to approve Finland to become a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization or ‘NATO’. According to foreign media reports, in the poll held in the Turkish Parliament on whether Finland should be given NATO membership or not, all the ministers unanimously expressed their consent.

NATO‘ is a military alliance formed by the United States, Canada and other European countries to counter threats from Russia. Turkey is also a strong member of NATO. Many opposition political activists have moved to Finland to live against the Turkish government. In addition, many people designated as ‘terrorists’ by Turkey also live in Finland.

Therefore, Finland needed Turkey’s approval to become a NATO member. Finland requested NATO membership over Russia’s military action against Ukraine. Finland has said that if Russia invades Ukraine, it is a major threat. Finland also borders Russia. (Reuters)
