The sky is heavy with clouds in the northern and eastern provinces and the Department of Meteorology says that some rains may occur in Sabaragamuwa province, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts today (17). In the Western Province and Galle and Matara Districts, there will be some rain, while in the Northern Province and Trincomalee District, there may be scattered showers or thundershowers in the evening or at night.
In the western slopes of the central mountains, and in the North-Central Province, Puttalam, Hambantota and Trincomalee districts, the winds blowing from time to time can become gusty between 40 and 45 kilometres per hour. The Department of Meteorology urges individuals to take the required precautions to reduce the risks brought on by storm-related lightning and transient high winds.
