The Department of Meteorology says that the current rain situation in the southwestern parts of the island is expected to continue today (04). The department stated that rains may occur from time to time in Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-West and Northern provinces and in Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.

Some places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts may experience very heavy rains of more than 150 mm, while some places in Western Province and Galle and Matara districts also have the possibility of slightly heavy rains of more than 75 mm.

In Uva Province and Ampara and Batticaloa Districts, rain or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the evening or at night, in the western slopes of the Central Highlands, and in the North-Central Province and Puttalam, Hambantota and Trincomalee districts, strong winds of 40 to 45 kilometres per hour will occur from time to time.

The Department of Meteorology urges individuals to take the required precautions to reduce the risks brought on by storm-related lightning and transient high winds.
