Pakistan’s new government, headed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, has opted to forego his salary and any perks to which he is entitled, given the severe economic situation the nation is now experiencing. A special cabinet meeting was called in response to the economic crisis to reduce needless spending. All members of the cabinet, including the prime minister, unanimously approved the plan, according to Pakistan News Service.

An agreement was also reached between the Prime Minister and the Cabinet regarding the cessation and curtailment of foreign travel on government funds. Pakistan seeks loans from the International Monetary Fund to recover from the economic crisis. To that end, the Government of Pakistan is adopting many measures to promote fiscal accountability and optimize public resources in the face of economic challenges.

Once again, Asif Ali Zardari, who became the President of Pakistan, has also sworn in his office and said that he will not receive any salary or allowances due to the President. When Asif Ali Zardari made that decision, Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mosheen Naqeef also said that he too would not get his due salary. (NDTV)
