The National Dengue Control Unit says the number of dengue cases reported in Sri Lanka so far this year has reached nearly 70,000.

According to the Unit, a total of 69,951 dengue cases had been reported across the country as of yesterday (13), with the number of infections continuing to rise.

Meanwhile, the total number of dengue cases reported as of July 12 stood at 68,672, meaning 1,279 new cases were reported on July 13 alone.

The Western Province has recorded the highest number of dengue infections, with 33,127 cases reported to date.

Within the province, the Gampaha District has reported the highest number of cases at 14,464, followed closely by the Colombo District with 14,004 cases.

In addition, 14,572 dengue cases have been reported during the first 13 days of July.

The highest monthly total recorded so far this year was in June, when 21,538 dengue cases were reported.
