Following decades of falling agonisingly short of success, South African cricket has finally achieved a historic first major triumph with a 5 wicket victory over Australia to win the World Test Championship at Lord’s on Saturday.
Aiden Markam’s sublime century and skipper Temba Bavuma’s gritty half century power South Africa to clinch their maiden ICC World Test Championship on Saturday.
With a day of play still remaining, Bavuma-led South Africa chased down the target. Bedingham (21) and Verreynne (4) remained unbeaten to take their side comfortably past the winning line.
Chasing a target of 282 runs in the fourth innings, the Proteas entered the field with determination and delivered.
The win is South Africa’s first ICC final win in 27-years. The side last won the ICC Champions Trophy in 1998, which remained their lone ICC trophy till today.
