While many other supercar companies were concerned about the things like speed, power, engine capacity, and handling, England’s Rolls-Royce always tried to produce the most luxurious cars. So their efforts have been wonderfully successful because Rolls-Royce is still known as the world’s most luxurious car maker for over 100 years.
However, the prices of these cars are unimaginably high. A Rolls Royce was first brought to Sri Lanka about 5 years ago. Then the price was around 16 crore rupees. Although it was a Rolls Royce Ghost-type car, the manufactured price at that time was about 9 crore rupees, but this price was determined by the taxes charged when it was brought to Sri Lanka. So let’s see why Rolls Royce cars are so expensive.
1. Over 117 years of proud history
A significant part of the value of any product in the world belongs to its brand. Apple products are the best example of this. One of the reasons why the price of Rolls Royce cars has gone up is the rich history behind the brand. In the early days, countries like Germany and France always tried to produce vehicles that provide more value for less money. Instead, it was at that time that the inventor named Henry Royce came up with an idea to make cars suitable for the important people of the British Empire, which are comfortable and spacious. He has been producing Rolls Royce vehicles since 1904 in collaboration with Charles Royce, a capitalist who has been producing cars suitable for royalty since then.
2. Amazing durability
Today, vehicles are manufactured in such a way that they can be used for a period of 5-10 years without any problems. But there are plenty of occasions where many good car models are used several times like this. Most of the time, it is based on the technology used in the production of the vehicle, the raw materials used and their quality. Rolls-Royce is one of the most sustainable companies in the world. That’s why they care a lot about the materials they use, the technology of the particular vehicle, and the quality of the vehicle. The best example of the result is that more than 65% of all vehicles produced by the company since 1904 are still in good running condition. Vehicles made between 1925 and 1930 are still running well today.
3. World Sacred Engine
You may have heard that Rolls Royce is also the best aircraft engine manufacturer in the world in addition to car manufacturing. Based on the wonderful engineering ability of Henry Royce, the company has been manufacturing the Rolls Royce engine in very high quality since the beginning. Therefore, they were at the forefront of aircraft engine production. During the Second World War, there was a good chance that England and France would surrender to Nazi Germany. But that was avoided because of the Merlin V12 engine made by this company for the P-51 Mustang aircraft. That’s why British people still consider Rolls-Royce as the protector who saved their motherland. Rolls-Royce uses many of the patented technologies used in aeroplanes in its car engines. Due to these factors, strength, smoothness and durability are at the forefront.
4. Comfort inside
Interior comfort is at the top of Rolls Royce car manufacturing. Because of this, they make a special effort to reduce the noise and vibration of the engine, the shaking caused by the cracks in the road, and the discomfort caused by the nature of the vehicle. A special suspension system that maximizes comfort, a special engine that controls acceleration and deceleration very smoothly, and glass that completely cuts off the outside noise. That is why the Rolls Royce car is special for a comfortable journey. It’s a very smooth experience, and when travelling at a speed of 120 kilometres per hour or 100 miles, the loudest sound the person inside the vehicle hears is the sound of the hands of the clock on the dashboard. Sound insulation materials weighing more than 120 kg are used to create this situation.
5. Leather from male cows only
One of the best examples of Rolls-Royce cars’ extreme luxury and uniqueness is the care they take for even the smallest of things. Seat covers, dashboards, hand vests, interior roofs etc. are finished leather is the best example of this. Leather for them is always obtained from male cows only. Also, there are no barbed wire fences in the farms where those animals live. During the pregnancy of female cattle, the skin may be torn and pulled, and the skin may be pinched when cattle are driven by barbed wire fences. Even if it lasts for a long time, the scars will not be removed. Therefore, only the skin of male cows is used for products. They also ensure that they are stitched only with the help of highly skilled tailors.
6. Most parts of the production are done by artisans
Today, many automotive manufacturing companies are doing their work with the help of robots. This is due to speed, efficiency and cost-effectiveness. But they still use only well-trained craftsmen for Rolls-Royce’s work. Due to this, things like vehicle assembly and passenger cabin preparation are done by a special group of people with their own hands.
This includes making changes according to the wishes of the buyer. So while other companies usually produce a vehicle in a few hours, Rolls Royce vehicles take a long time to produce. It takes 10 weeks or two and a half months to create a supermodel car. The company also has a good amount of employees who are getting a very high salary who contribute to that. So the production of Rolls Royce vehicles costs more.
7. Any type of preference
Most cars have a few specific colours. But Rolls Royce vehicles do not have a production colour. So you can choose any colour you like in the world. You can paint cars with any colour you like in lipstick, gems, pet colours, and clothes colour. It’s not just a colour choice. Everything from the original colour to its gloss, appearance, and appearance in different lighting conditions is recreated.
This is made by coating many different things together including special paints, metal powders, varnishes, natural herbs, and diamond powders. Often these colours and polishes can go up to 23 coats. Perhaps the weight of these paint layers is about 45 kg.
8. Mark Court’s paint pattern
People who have enough assets to buy a Rolls Royce are concerned about buying a unique car of their own. In recent times, its high point is the pattern created by the brush of the painter Marc Court. For that, he uses a brush made of squirrel hair. Mark Court is the artist with the steadiest hand in the world. He paints a simple design with a brush on every Rolls-Royce car since 2003. Although a skilled artist, Marc Court does not paint any other picture. That is why each individual Rolls-Royce car is considered to be a unique picture that Marc Cote draws for himself. For that, this company pays him more than 100,000 pounds a year.
9. Spirit of Ecstasy
Along with Rolls-Royce’s RR logo with two letters, another distinctive feature is the metal sculpture on the front grill. This is called the “Spirit of Ecstasy”. This is made in such a way that the dress of a woman who is bent towards the front sways in the wind. Thus, at first glance, it looks like two branches. This wonderful statue was first made based on the mistress of its designer, Charles Hine. First, the image became an important symbol of their relationship, and in a short time, it became as important as the two letters RR. This statue is one of the most valuable trademarks in the world today.
In 2003, BMW acquired the manufacturing rights from Rolls-Royce, but they had to pay an additional 65 million US dollars for the design alone. But the number of Rolls Royce cars produced per year is very limited. Because of this, the trademark value of one Ecstasy statue alone is thousands of dollars.
So now you can imagine why the Rolls Royce car was sold for so much, can’t you?
