Minister of State for Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya says that the government has decided to implement the law against people who come to Sri Lanka as air passengers for the purpose of smuggling gold articles unnecessarily.

Accordingly, the Minister of State states that without the permission of the Comptroller General of Imports and Exports, passengers wearing gold items over 22 carats will be banned from coming to Sri Lanka.

It is also said that information has been revealed that smugglers are bringing about 50 kilograms of gold to Sri Lanka daily using the permission of having no standard or limit of gold articles that can be worn by air passengers.
