The Colombo High Court today upheld the prison sentence imposed on the General Secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena (BBS), Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero, by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.
Colombo High Court Judge Manjula Tilakaratne delivered the verdict, dismissing an appeal filed by Gnanasara Thero seeking his acquittal and release from the sentence, said Ada Derana reporter.
The Police had filed a case against Gnanasara Thero under the Penal Code, accusing him of making a statement that disrupted communal harmony by allegedly insulting Islam.
Following a trial, the Colombo Magistrate’s Court found Gnanasara Thero guilty of the charge and sentenced him accordingly.
