Sri Lanka will fervently and enthusiastically commemorate her 75th anniversary of independence. Around the nation, parades and other cultural celebrations are staged to mark the beginning of a free Sri Lanka. The national ceremony, with the theme “Namo Namo Matha-A stride towards a century,” is being conducted on a large scale today at Galle Face Green in Colombo to commemorate this important milestone for the nation.
At 8.30 am, President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena presided over the National Ceremony.
This year’s Independence Day Parade also includes a number of cultural activities in addition to participation by the Sri Lankan Armed Forces, Police, Civil Defense Force, and National Cadet Corps. The Army, Air Force, and Navy displaying their military power and manpower as well as modern military equipment were added to the celebrations.
