Central Bank Governor Dr Nandalal Weerasinghe says that the banks have been instructed to provide relief to customers who are inconvenient to get loans through the banks.

The Governor of the Central Bank has mentioned this in the Ministerial Advisory Committee on Finance, Economic Stabilization and National Policy held in the Parliament.

Accordingly, the Governor of the Central Bank has stated that customers who have been inconvenienced by the increase in the interest rates charged for loans taken under variable interest rates in the past can get this relief.

The MPs have pointed out that due to the increase in the interest rate, the entire salary of some creditors has to be paid for loan instalments and in response to that, the Governor of the Central Bank has mentioned that the customers can negotiate with the bank and pay only the relevant interest for a certain grace period.
