Electricity and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera says that the revision of kerosene prices should have been done many years ago.

The Minister stated in a Twitter message that one of the main reasons for the loss of the Petroleum Corporation was the sale of kerosene at a subsidized price.

Accordingly, the new prices are in line with the cost and the government has proposed a direct cash subsidy for low-income families, fishing and plantation sectors that depend on kerosene, the minister further states.
