The Central Bank of Sri Lanka has informed that the Russian MIR card network cannot be implemented in the country’s banking system due to the sanctions imposed by the United States on Russia’s MIR payment system.
With the recent suspension of American card companies Visa and Mastercard’s operations in Russia, Russians lost the opportunity to transact abroad through those cards, and then they demanded the operation of the Russian MIR card network abroad.
