The government has decided to temporarily stop non-essential recruitment for government service.

However, Minister Ramesh Pathirana said that for the need to maintain the services of some institutions, approval was also given to use the employees from the redundant departments.

Also, the Cabinet has approved the appointment of a committee of officials headed by the Prime Minister’s Secretary to review the recruitment process in the public service.

It is stated that the government is currently working to balance the number of employees in various sectors with the aim of maintaining the public service more formally and efficiently as well as at a high level in view of the current economic situation.
