According to the local media, 6 people were killed and 81 people were injured in a bomb explosion in a crowded street in Istanbul, Turkey.
Hospital sources indicate that the death toll is likely to increase as several of the injured are in serious condition. Investigations into the bombing have now begun, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said it was an act of terrorism.
The bomb exploded on Istiklal Street in the Beyoglu district of Istanbul. Istanbul is the largest city in Turkey. This is a tourist attraction.
Turkish Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu told the media that the person who left the bomb on Istiklal Street was arrested. He did not reveal more details about that person.
Meanwhile, it is also learned that the Turkish security forces are on the lookout for a young woman who is suspected of leaving the bomb. The CCTV security camera footage of the girl wandering the street has now been made public by the Al Jazeera news service.
