According to a statement released by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, more than 5.3 million people in Syria have lost their homes due to earthquakes.

The announcement issued by the United Nations High Commissioner’s office further states that the people who have been affected by the earthquake are the people who have been helpless because of the 12-year-long Syrian civil war.

The number of Syrians killed in the earthquakes has passed 4,500. Many areas, including the city of Aleppo, which are under the control of the Syrian opposition political groups, suffered the most damage from the earthquakes. Aid to the Syrian people affected by the earthquake is provided through the intervention of the United Nations.

Foreign media have also reported that the UN representatives have received the full permission of the Syrian government to provide immediate aid to the areas held by the opposition political groups and armed groups friendly to them. (Reuters)
